Patricia, 49, lives with her husband and four children in the Misisi compound near Chawama. Life was hard due to her husband’s constant struggle to provide for their family financially. Things began to change when she met Rosemary, a women’s economic empowerment coordinator with HOPE worldwide Zambia, who encouraged her to join a Ministry of Community Development workshop and enrol in HOPE worldwide Zambia’s programmes.

Through adult literacy classes, Patricia learned to read, write and do basic maths, opening up new possibilities in her daily life. In the Women’s Economic Empowerment programme, she gained practical skills in groundnut milling and began producing and selling milled groundnuts with other women in her community.

These new skills helped Patricia secure temporary work as a caregiver with Avencion, a HOPE worldwide Zambia partner. Her income now helps to support her family, alongside her husband’s tailoring work, and her children attend HOPE worldwide Zambia’s Kids Clubs, where they are showing positive changes in their behaviour. Patricia is grateful for the transformation in her life and the new hope she and her family have found.
