Five-year-old Roshni from Pudupattinam is known for her cheerful and lively spirit. But behind her cheerful spirit is a story of resilience, hope, and the transformative power of inclusive education.
Like many parents, Roshni’s parents, Murali and Clara, dreamed of a bright future for their daughter. However, they faced a unique challenge: Roshni was born with an underdeveloped right hand, making everyday tasks more difficult.
Initially, fear and uncertainty held them back from enrolling Roshni in school. Would Roshni be able to keep up in a regular classroom? Would she receive the support she needed, or would she be left behind? These questions weighed heavily on their minds.
However, after hearing positive feedback about HOPE foundation School in Pudupattinam through friends and neighbours, Roshni’s mother mustered the courage to approach the school. She expressed her concern about her daughter’s condition to the school and the class teacher.
Understanding the situation, Manju Priya, Roshni’s teacher, took special care and patiently taught Roshni how to write using her left hand. Today, Roshni writes beautifully and independently completes her classwork. Over time, her confidence has blossomed — she actively participates in school activities, has taken part in sports events, and even performed a dance at the Annual Day celebration.
Her parents are filled with gratitude and pride as they watch their daughter thrive in a nurturing environment, appreciative of the care that the school has taken to help their daughter succeed.
“When I first met Roshni, she clung to her mother and said she didn’t want to come to school. But today, it’s amazing to see how much she has grown. Despite her physical limitations, she does all her work independently and rarely asks for help. She writes beautifully with her left hand and is always eager to participate in dance and sports. Roshni is truly a joyful and spirited child,” Manju said.
“In the classroom, I treated her just like any other student. But whenever she needed support, I was there to guide her. I believe this balance helped her build confidence and believe in herself.”
